Welcome to CAF America

Sarah Marchal Murray

Chief Philanthropy Officer

I currently serve as CAF America’s Chief Philanthropy Officer. In my role, I support the teams leading our corporate, charity/social purpose and private donor services, external relations, advisory, product, marketing and communications, research & insights, and donor engagements with the shared goal to enable impactful giving globally. Before joining CAF America, I spent three decades preoccupied with developing the relationship between philanthropic and social impact investors and the role they, the teams, and the systems and tools they support, come together to create an equitable world for us all.

A leader at the intersection of civil society and philanthropy, I have both managed and advised others with extensive P&L responsibility and helped anchor leaders on purpose driven and focused work; philanthropically supported and revenue generating, yet always values centric. In my career, I have had the fortune to work across many areas – from global health to the health of our oceans, financial inclusion to open source technology, effective altruism to trust based philanthropy, to politics, international development policy, advocacy, and beyond.

A neuro-diverse leader, I strive to build and develop diverse teams whose passion, skills, and interest are brought into alignment to thoughtfully address the common goals with joy and dignity. My candor and commitment to the work as a calling affords my teams and the philanthropic leaders we partner with an authentic, honest, and timely feedback resource to accelerate alignment and potential for substantive, strategic action and a chance to see their values in the world.

I have been fortunate to be the trusted advisor to numerous social impact leaders, philanthropists, and civil society organizations in addition to serving in leadership roles at Kiva and Kiva Capital, The END Fund, The Center for Global Development, WaterAid, Vamos Mexico Foundation, and CCS Consulting. Previous to my career in philanthropy I worked in political media consulting and was a Peace Corps Volunteer.
