Americans' Trust in Global Charities

World Giving Report, 2025

In conjunction with CAF’s World Giving Report, CAF America has produced supplementary reports that dive deeper into key regional trends and giving behaviors across the globe. CAF America's report, "Americans' Trust in Global Charities" shares how much trust American donors have in charities working abroad.

Trust in NGOs has also been slowly increasing over the past two decades; however, in 2024, just 8% of American donors gave money to international charities focused on work outside of the U.S. Americans care about global issues, but they are often hesitant to give to organizations beyond our borders. In CAF’s most recent World Giving Report, we found that generally, Americans tend to trust local charities much more than international charities.

This report goes further, exploring factors that influence Americans’ views of charities. All findings in the following report are based on a nationally representative survey of over 4,000 U.S. adults, weighted for age, gender, income, age by gender, and geographic region.
