The CAF America Difference
CAF America conducts industry-leading due diligence reviews of international and domestic organizations to ensure that all grants are made to legitimate charitable programs, funds are used for their intended purpose, and are in full compliance with all U.S. laws as well as local government regulations. This enables donors to mitigate the risk, reputational exposure, and administrative burden associated with international grantmaking, while allowing them to make impactful, cost-effective, and tax-advantaged gifts. In addition, with CAF America’s validation and due diligence protocols, approved organizations can remain eligible for up to three years.
Why do we charge an administrative fee?

Validation Fees for Donor Advised Gifts
Effective November 5, 2026
Validation is CAF America's due diligence process for reviewing charitable organizations and projects before grants can be made.
For U.S. organizations, validation review confirms that an organization is eligible to receive grants through CAF America.
For international organizations, there are two types of validation review: Expenditure Responsibility and Equivalency Determination.
- Expenditure Responsibility (ER) is a grantmaking process that enables CAF America to fund a specific charitable project while maintaining oversight of how grant funds are used.
- Equivalency Determination (ED) is a due diligence process that determines whether an organization is the equivalent of a U.S. public charity, allowing grants to be made directly to the organization.
While both have advantages and disadvantages, CAF America can help determine which is most appropriate based on the specific grant (or grants) under consideration.
