Jane Peebles

Jane Peebles is a recently retired partner in the law firm of Karlin & Peebles, LLP, in Los
Angeles, California. Her areas of legal practice were U.S. and international estate and charitable
planning. She counseled high net worth individuals, family-owned businesses, corporate
fiduciaries, nonprofit organizations and philanthropists and has helped form, fund and operate
many charitable organizations and facilitate numerous gifts for charitable projects in the U.S. and
abroad.

Ms. Peebles has been a frequent presenter on sophisticated estate and charitable planning at
venues including The USC Tax Institute, The Philip E. Heckerling Estate Planning Institute, and
several International Bar Association conferences. She has also published several articles on
domestic and international estate and charitable planning and is the author of “The Handbook on
International Philanthropy”, “Implications of the Anti-Terrorist Financing Rules for U.S.
Charities Making Grants Abroad”, “Here There Be Dragons: Navigating the Waters of Cross-
Border Philanthropy” and “Emerging Legal Issues in International Philanthropy”, and a co-
author of CAF America’s “Cross Border Giving: a Legal and Practical Guide” and of
“Foundation Management: Innovation and Responsibility at Home and Abroad.” Ms. Peebles
taught International Gift Planning for 20 years for the Certified Specialist in Planned Giving
program at Cal State University Long Beach.

Ms. Peebles served on the board of Liberty Hill Foundation for 12 years as a director and then
Chair. She also served on the board of the National Committee on Planned Giving (now
Charitable Gift Planners) from 2003 to 2006. She is currently on the boards of Urban Peace
Institute and CAF America. She is member of CAF America’s Philanthropy Committee.

Ms. Peebles is a Fellow of The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC), a
member of the Society of Trusts and Estates Practitioners (STEP) and a California State Bar
certified specialist in Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law. Her peers have ranked her a
Southern California Top 50 Female Super Lawyer every year since 2004. Both she and Karlin &
Peebles, LLP are listed in Chambers Private Client. Prior to forming her own firm in 2007, Ms.
Peebles practiced at the international law firms of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius and Bingham
McCutchen. She holds a double M.A. in pedagogy and English literature from The City College
of New York and a J.D. from New York University School of Law.
