I am Alex Smith, a Validation Associate on the Grant Services team. I review and support our grantee organizations during the eligibility application and due diligence process.
Prior to joining CAF America, I was a teacher in the D.C. area for 5 years. I spent most of that time teaching 4th grade where I worked closely with students who were English Language Learners that came to be from all over the world. It was my responsibility to ensure that they were integrated into a public school setting while utilizing their unique experiences and backgrounds to enable them to access the required learning objectives.
I have a Bachelor’s of Science in Education from Georgia State University with a concentration in English as a Second Language. I am also in the process of obtaining a Master’s of Business Administration from George Mason University.
Outside of work, you can usually find me engaging in some form of science fiction or fantasy based activity like video games, reading, or table top game. I also spend a majority of my free time playing with my 3 cats, hiking, or finding new brands of coffee to try.
