USA Such programs often serve as safe haven for many minors who might otherwise face challenging circumstances in their neighborhoods, and GRANT AMOUNT: sometimes their homes. Since 1995, Girls in the Game has been working $5,000 in the city of Chicago, the initial site of the organization, to address the growing concern of violence affecting youth and empower girls. SDG FOCUS AREAS:No PovertyThe organizations afterschool programs aim to increase self-esteem, (SDG 1) address trauma, and encourage non-violent conflict-resolution. Over the Gender Equalitycourse of the past 25 years, the programs reached 50,000 girls.(SDG 5) Building on this success, Girls in the Game expanded to two new locations, Baltimore and Northern Texas, and in 2008 added yet another program: the Teen Squad. The Teen Squad reaches teens that experienced trauma, live in poverty, and may lack access to the daily Girls in the Game activities.
